Legendary horror and fantasy writer Stephen King is getting a high honor - an award from the President of the United States. He tweeted out the news, which was also issued in a press release, that he's receiving the National Medal of Arts at a ceremony on Thursday September 10, 2015.

The National Medal of Arts is "awarded by the President of the United States to individuals or groups who are deserving of special recognition by reason of their outstanding contributions to the excellence, growth, support, and availability of the arts in the United States."

"I guess I'm going to be awarded the National Medal of Arts next week," King tweeted. "I'm amazed and grateful. Congratulations to all my fellow honorees!"

The official award says King is being honored for his ability to "combine his remarkable storytelling with his sharp analysis of human nature." Other awardees this year include visual artists, actresses including Sally Field, and musicians. The full list of awardees, courtesy Arts.gov, is below.
