Disney is enjoying an immense amount of success at the box office recently, and that doesn't show any signs of stopping, especially if the latest rumor is to be believed.

According to Deadline, Disney is in early talks to bring The Little Mermaid to live action. Production Chiefs at Disney were given a new pitch for the property that they reportedly loved, and have started talking to producers about moving forward.

While it is known to most, The Little Mermaid was crafted by Disney animators in 1989 and has become one of the most iconic properties for the company. Disney has had great success so far with their live-action conversions, including the Angelina Jolie-led Maleficent and the Lily James led Cinderella. Most recently they hit a home run with the Jon Favreau-Directed The Jungle Book, which has so far generated $860 million at the worldwide box office.

There is also a Little Mermaid project in development at Universal, which has enlisted the talents of Chloe Grace Moretz and Director Rebecca Thomas, but no word yet on when that is set to release.

Disney has more in the pipeline as well. This year we'll get Alice Through the Looking Glass and Pete's Dragon, and the much anticipated Emma Watson starring Beauty and the Beast is slated for March 17th, 2017. Disney's also got Cruella in development (Emma Stone), Jungle Crusie (Dwayne Johnson), Dumbo (Tim Burton), and Mary Poppins (Rob Marshall) with Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda set to star. That's not to mention Maleficent 2, with Jolie set to reprise her role, and the recently announced The Jungle Book 2, which will see the return of Favreau in the Directors chair.
