After Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures confirmed their Pacific Rim sequel would be hitting theaters on February 23rd 2018, it's now looking like the studios are targeting actor Scott Eastwood to star in the upcoming film.

While there are very few details known about the sequel officially, Legendary has confirmed that John Boyega will star as a leading role in the film. Hot off the actor's successful role as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Boyega is set to play the son of the first film's late Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba). Now, it appears as if the studio is gunning for Eastwood to star as a co-lead to the sequel according to an exclusive report by Deadline.

Pacific Rim 2 is scheduled to begin production later this year with Steve S. DeKnight taking over as the film's director. Guillermo del Toro will return to the franchise as an producer alongside Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, and John Jashuni. Cale Boyter will oversee as executive producer.

Currently, there are no known roles for Eastwood to be cast in as Pacific Rim 2 is keeping quiet about its finer storyline details. So far, fans have been teased that the film will focus on the origin of the franchise's Kaijus which threatened to end the world in 2013's Pacific Rim. However, if Eastwood's potential involvement should be confirmed, the upcoming actor is more than capable of tackling whatever role he's given.

Eastwood, who's the son of the legendary Clint Eastwood, is racking up resume lines as the actor is set to star in Fast 8 and DC Entertainment's Suicide Squad. He has also been cast in Snowden and has previously starred in films such as Texas Chainsaw 3D and The Longest Ride.
