Assassin's Creed is getting ready to ramp up the press as we passed the six month mark last month. On the official twitter account for the film, two new images were released, alongside the Assassin's tagline, "We work in the dark to serve the light."
The new images include one from the past and one from the present. In the film, Michael Fassbender plays dual roles: Callum Lynch, an Assassin in the present day, and his own ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain during the time of the Inquisition - certainly a fertile ground for an Assassin versus Templar conflict.
Through the use of the Animus, a device created to allow people to experience their genetic memories, embedded in their DNA, Lynch learns Aguilar's skills, and fights a war against the Templars, in the present day hidden in the Abstergo company, on two fronts in time.
Assassin's Creed is not an adaptation of an existing game or comic, but rather lives in the same world. It hits theaters December 21, 2016, starring Fassbender alongside Marion Cotillard, Ariane Labed, and Michael Kenneth Williams. Directed by Justin Kurzel, the film is being produced by Ubisoft alongside 20th Century Fox, with the video game company working closely with the film production side from the start.
