Batman: Return To Arkham Gets A New Release Date

Batman: Return to Arkham is apparently back in the pipeline.

Batman: Return to Arkham, an HD remaster and re-release of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City for current-gen consoles, was announced earlier in 2016, but then delayed indefinitely by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment released a new side-by-side comparison video comparing the graphics of the original Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City to the remasters in Batman: Return to Arkham. The description included with the video also reveals the release date of Oct. 18, 2016.

Fans of Rocksteady's Batman Arkham trilogy have been anticipating the release of an HD remaster of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City to the bring the full trilogy to current generation consoles, which is where the trilogy's third installment, Batman: Arkham Knight,was released. Those fans were delighted when the initial Batman: Return to Arkham announcement was made, particularly when they learned they'd only have to wait until July to get it.

While the Batman: Return to Arkham delay was unfortunate, it was probably for the best. Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment are likely keen to avoid the kind of launch problems they had with Batman: Arkham Knight. Activision's recent HD remaster of Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 has also served as an example of how wrong a superhero video game re-release can go.

After Batman: Return to Arkham was indefinitely delayed, we honestly weren't entirely sure we'd ever hear about it again. The fact that the release is now just around the corner, and that, judging by the video, it looks very, very good makes us eager to play through the entire Batman Arkham trilogy again in all of its newfound HD glory.

Batman: Return to Arkham releases on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on Oct. 18.
