Robert Kirkman Will Come Up With A Different Ending For The Walking Dead TV Series

The Walking Dead is one of the longest running comics currently in print. Going into its 159th issue next week, the Skybound/Image Comics series was first published in 2003, making it well over a decade old.

The TV adaptation of The Walking Dead has been airing since 2010, heading into its seventh season and is quickly closing in on 90 episodes. The AMC series' story is parallel to issue #100 of the comics.

"I hope the show ends and the comic keeps going," says The Walking Dead's writer and creator Robert Kirkman.

Kirkman has long claimed to have an ending planned for his best known series but is not going to reveal it to anybody - not even the team bringing Rick Grimes and company to life in live action on Sunday nights.

"The comic was the comic before the show and so I try to maintain that," Kirkman tells Kevin Smith and Greg Grunberg on AMC's new Geeking Out series. "I know how I want to end The Walking Dead so I can't tell anyone because I don't want it on the show before I get it in my comic!"

Kirkman is ready to go all George R.R. Martin and keep his ending for his books and let the showrunners create something different for television. "So, if the show were to end ever, at any point and the comic was still going, I would have to sit down with Scott [Gimple] and pretend I have no idea how to end it and come up with another ending," Kirkman says.
