So many books are vying for your attention, including at least 6 books involving a member of the Spider-verse. If you have to just choose one for your pull list, however, it should be Spider-Woman, and issue #12 is just another fantastic reason why.

There are no Civil War II crossovers here (though the last two tie-in issues were stellar as well), and no big twist or cliffhanger. Dennis Hopeless just continues to churn out endearing and entertaining stories with characters that continuously reveal new layers every issue.

Spider-Woman's heart is in how it treat's its supporting cast, and in this issue's case that happens to be Roger's (The Porcupine) child Kalie, as well as Jessica's young son Gerry. They aren't treated as just plot gimmicks and are a continuous and important part of Jessica and Roger's journey. The book handles it's action well and doesn't forget to include lighter more comedic fare, but it never loses sight of what makes it all work, that being the friendship between Jess, Ben, and Roger.

Regular artist Javier Rodriguez is only on cover duty this issue, but artist Tigh Walker does a lovely job of keeping a similar overall tone while highlighting his stylistic differences. In short, Walker's work is a perfect fit.

If you're looking for the next big storyline or event, this issue will do nothing for you. That said, if you've been reading Spider-Woman for awhile, you know that isn't what makes the book special, and issue #12 just continues to build upon its already entertaining foundation.
