Sherlock and Watson are making their way back to television screens soon, and BBC has released the official premiere date.

The much-anticipated Sherlock season 4 will hit the network on January 1, 2017, as they announced on Twitter. It had been delayed thanks to the ever growing popularity of Benedict Cumberbatch, but things seem to finally be near completion.

The trailer for the upcoming season was recently released as well, depicting a darker overall tone for the Sherlock universe (not that it was ever truly lighthearted), and essentially putting all of Sherlock's closest friends and allies at risk thanks to an unknown enemy. We say unknown, but the trailer does start out with Moriarty asking "Did you miss me?" It could also come from Toby Jones, who will be playing a new villain in season 4.

The episode titles for the first two episodes were already released, and include The Six Thatchers (Episode 1) and The Lying Detective (Episode 2). According to Cumberbatch, episode 3 is where the real fun begins. "Oh boy, you have got a lot coming to you in episode 3."

Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes), Martin Freeman (Dr. John Watson), Una Stubbs (Mrs. Hudson), Rupert Graves (DI Lestrade), Louise Brealey (Molly Hooper), Mark Gatiss (Mycroft Holmes), and Andrew Scott (Jim Moriarty).

The two stars also recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cumberbatch will be seen in Marvel Studios upcoming Doctor Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme himself, while Martin Freeman was seen in Captain America: Civil War as Everett Ross.
