Doctor Who's current season is ready to wrap up, and fans are right to be worried about their favorite leads. Whovians already know that Peter Capaldi will be exiting the BBC series in a few episodes, but it looks like another main character will bite it as well. The official synopsis for the first-half of Doctor Who's impending finale is out, and it does not bode well for one of the Doctor's comrades.

Trapped on a giant spaceship, caught in the event horizon of a black hole, he witnesses the death of someone he is pledged to protect. Is there any way he can redeem his mistake? Judging by the synopsis, Doctor Who is gearing up for one of the Doctor's companions to die. The summary says the 12th Doctor will witness "the death of someone he is pledged to protect," and fans have a hunch as to which of the Doctor's friends will meet their end.
Right now, Whovians seem convinced that the synopsis refers to Missy. The Time Lady's actress Michelle Gomez has said she will be leaving Doctor Who with Capaldi, and she is under the Doctor's protection at the moment. Still, there is a chance that the synopsis is nodding to Bill Potts. Pearl Mackie has not said whether she will return to Doctor Who for season eleven, but prospects don't look good.
Recently, Doctor Who's incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall said he wants to reboot much of the show when he steps in. The clean slate would necessitate a new Doctor, companion, and overall tone for the cult series. The loss of Bill would not be the first time that the Doctor loses a companion, and the ordeal may trigger the Time Lord to make his "rashest" decision yet.
Doctor Who airs on Saturdays on BBC America. The finale of Doctor Who's 10th season will air on July 1st with "The Doctor Falls." Rachel Talalay will direct the two-part finale.
