If there is one thing anime fans are good at, it is waiting. The first thing audiences learn when they get into anime is how to have patience. The delay between series debuting in Japan and them reaching the U.S. can be lengthy, and English dubs can take years to be approved. In the past few years, anime fans have had to wait less and less, and now it looks like Sword Art Online is trying to cater to its international fans.

Next month, Sword Art Online will be releasing its newest film, and it will premiere simultaneously around the world. Kadokawa confirmed the ambitious release plan last year, and details about the screenings continue to trickle in.

The official release date for Sword Art Online The Movie -Ordinal Scale- is February 18th, and the movie will screen in more than 1,000 theaters around the world. There's no official word on how Kadokawa plans to see the feat through, but fans have been informed that the movie will be released worldwide with subtitles.

With more than 19 million volumes in circulation, Sword Art Online is one of the most popular manga series in Japan. The futurist, tech-friendly series follows characters as they live in a world that embraces virtual reality gear. Kirito, the franchise's hero, has become a well-known figure amongst anime and video game fans since Sword Art Online debuted in 2009.

If you are not familiar with Sword Art Online The Movie -Ordinal Scale- or want to know a bit more, then you can check out its official synopsis below:

"In 2022, the world of virtual reality was upended by the arrival of a new invention from a genius programmer, Akihiko Kayaba, called NerveGear. It was the first full-dive system, and with it, came endless possibilities to VRMMORPGs.

In 2026, a new machine called the Augma is developed to compete against the NerveGear and its successor, the Amusphere. A next-gen wearable device, the Augma doesn't have a full-dive function like its predecessors. Instead, it uses Augmented Reality (AR) to get players into the game. It is safe, user-friendly and lets users play while they are conscious, making it an instant hit on the market. The most popular game on the system is "Ordinal Scale" (aka: OS), an ARMMORPG developed exclusively for the Augma.
