With all the post-Comic-Con hype surrounding ‘Kick-Ass’, it was only a matter of time until the film picked up a distributor. After a multi-company bidding war, Lionsgate won the rights to distribute Kick-Ass in the U.S. and Canada.
Kick-Ass, directed by Matthew Vaughn, stars Aaron Johnson as Dave/Kick-Ass, a teenager that fights crime. The film also stars Nicolas Cage and Chloe Moretz. The film is adapted from the Mark Millar/John Romita Jr. comic book of the same name.
Because Vaughn has promised the film will stick to its violent comic book roots, finding a distributor has been tricky. However, after an extremely positive reaction from footage at Comic-Con, it appeared that the film would finally find a home.
“Matthew Vaughn is an amazing talent and a true original, and he has brought a whole new mindset to the action genre with “Kick-Ass,’” said Jason Constantine, Lionsgate President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions.
Kick-Ass will hit theaters in early 2010.
