With the upcoming release date of Assassin's Creed Origins quickly drawing nearer, fans of the series have plenty to look forward to when it comes to the new game. A fresh change of setting, new characters, and a rich new storyline are just some of the features that usually come with Assassin's Creed games, but players who have seen the trailer shown during E3 couldn't help but notice another feature that's apparently in the game, on that comes in the form of a giant enemy snake.

While Assassin's Creed games usually anchor their stories with historical aspects, they do tend to incorporate some science fiction elements into the mix, so it's not entirely uncommon to see something that appears to be a bit "out there" in the game, but a mythical enemy like a giant snake was a bit too conspicuous to go unnoticed. According to those in charge of the game's development, quite a few questions have already been asked about the snake that's seen towards the end of the above trailer, but precious little has been revealed in terms of details.

"The giant snake, the amount of questions we get on that…I'll tell you this about the snake: Assassin's Creed is a credible experience,"Ashraf Ismail, the creative director for the game, told OPM UK. "I mean we have our lore, of course, we have our First Civilization, and that aspect, I mean we don't shy away from that, it is part of the brand and we assume that. But we also don't go randomly high fantasy."

But is the snake even an enemy that players will fight, or is it purely story and cutscene material? Those questions were a bit harder to receive answers for, but Ismail assures fans that it'll be used to round out the Assassin's Creed experience.

"There is a justification for that snake, of course, you don't want me to spoil that for you and I won't," he said. "Yes, it's a giant snake, if you ask yourself, how could a giant snake exist for a guy like Bayek? I'm sure there are a few answers that can work, but i'll stay saying that Assassin's Creed is an authentic, credible experience."

Assassins Creed Origins is scheduled to be released on Oct. 27.
