Avengers: Infinity War Will Be Unlike Any Comic Book Movie Before It

Marvel Studios is approaching two major milestones within the same new entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Infinity War will mark 10 years of the franchise but also serve as the largest and most unique film in the franchise.
"As we're approaching our 10th anniversary, I think we still have a long way to go in terms of places to explore and characters to get to know," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said.
Going forward, the entries to the MCU will do just what Feige is describing. While it all starts with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 this weekend, Avengers 4 will be a major step towards realizing the depths of the universe. "It's continuing to evolve [and] continuing to surprise," Feige said. "It's continuing to bring out films with characters that people have seen before and loved before, or new characters, but taking them to unexpected places, which is what I think the comics have done extremely well over the decades."
Avengers: Infinity War and its 2019 sequel don't require much to get fans excited. The films mark the first time the Avengers will team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy as they join forces to take on Thanos, a villain who has been teased since the post-credits tag of 2012's The Avengers. Still, Feige insists fans are hardly ready for what Marvel Studios has in store for them.
"It's more exciting than people are aware of right now, with what's happening [on Infinity War]," Feige said. "We're doing things you've never seen before with films based on comics."
"We're deep into shooting; we've been shooting for 35 days. On most movies you're almost halfway there after 35 days, but on these movies we're still just scratching the surface. We'll be filming through the end of the year, he said."
As for the dynamic between the Avengers and their cosmic counterpart in the Guardians, there may be a little feud brewing during their first encounter. "The offscreen, on-screen banter is not too dissimilar from one another," he said but when asked if the two hero squads would come to blows with one another before uniting against Thanos, Feige laughed, "All things are possible…"
"There is nothing more fun about seeing superstars who carry their own franchises – and essentially have seen it all and done it all – coming onto a set and meeting other actors and A-listers and iconic characters in costumes, and seeing them get giddy," Feige said. "Seeing them turn into kids because of how excited they are on set. That is happening every day right now."
