WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Thor: Ragnarok! Continue reading at your own risk...
Marvel fans knew to stay after the credits when Thor: Ragnarok hit theaters this weekend, and they were treated to two very different teaser scenes. The first showed Loki and Thor on their ship heading for Earth, only to get cut off by Thanos' mighty Sanctuary II. The second scene saw The Grandmaster crawling out from hiding on Sakaar. According to director Taika Waititi, one of these scenes could've looked much different.
While speaking with Collider, Waititi opened up about the two post-credits scenes, and he added that there was another sequence that got left on the cutting room floor.
“We were determined to not have too many of them," Waititi explained. "The thing [with Loki and Thor], that was the thing we did in reshoots. It was a last-minute decision. And the other thing at the end, with The Grandmaster, was something we shot on Gold Coast that was something I planned for a long time. It was either going to be that or it was going to be Topaz and Grandmaster stowing away on the ship at the end.”
If you recall, the Grandmaster scene showed that he was still on Sakaar after the events of the film, left to deal with the uprising that had taken place against him. The alternate scene, as Waititi goes on to describe, had the Grandmaster and his right-hand lady heading to Earth on Thor's ship.
“That could be on the DVD in the deleted scenes, those two in the crowd of the Asgardians and he pushes through and goes, ‘I’ve never heard of this Earth place but… We got to keep a low profile.’ And they kind of put these blankets over their heads and disband into the crowd."
It may end up on the DVD extras when the movie gets a home release, but it likely won't be part of the canon of the film. The Grandmaster is on Sakaar, dealing with the problems he caused, and that's likely where we'll see him next.
