'Thor: The Dark World' Actor Says Marvel Was Dishonest With Him

Thor: Ragnarok may be dominating the box office this fall, but things weren't always so sunny in the God of Thunder's film franchise. The original Thor movie was met with fair reception, but the sequel, Thor: The Dark World, is one of the lesser-respected films in the MCU.

According to one of the fim's stars, the problems with the project weren't just with the movie itself.

During an interview with BBC Radio 2, former Doctor Who actor Christopher Eccelston revealed that he was lied to by Marvel Studios ahead of his role in the film. He apparently wasn't told that Malekith, the film's villain, would require nearly as much makeup as it did.

"Marvel were dishonest to me," Eccelston revealed. "Beause they never, ever let me know that there'd be that amount of makeup."

The actor went on to explain that he spent a large amount of time in the makeup chair every day.

"The first couple of days it was about seven hours, eight hours," the actor explained. "I think we got it down to six and a half. It's a day's work before [anything]."

Host Graham Norton brought up the money that Eccelston made by taking on the role. The actor wasn't shy about the fact that the paycheck kept him sitting in the makeup chair.

"Money," he confirmed. "That's exactly what I felt."

As Eccelston admitted in the interview, Thor: The Dark World wasn't exactly his "finest moment."

Despite the unsuccessful outing, The Dark World didn't bury Thor for good. Ragnarok has been a smash hit at the box office, and has been met with overwhelmingly positive critical reception.
