The first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War may have revealed the fate of the remaining Asgardians aboard Thor's ship at the end of Thor: Ragnarok.

Early in the trailer, Loki is seen stepping over dozens of bodies as he marches to present the tesseract and the Infinity Stone which it contains to an unidentified recipient. The recipient is most likely Thanos, who seemed to have showed up to Thor's ship at the end of Thor: Ragnarok.

As mentioned by Thor early in Ragnarok, his quest for the Infinity Stones lead him only to paths of "death and destruction." With Loki having taken the tesseract from Odin's vault and now aboard the ship, Thanos has been lead straight to them to wreak havoc on every being which stands before him as his assembles the Infinity Stones.

The bodies Loki is seen stepping over is most likely what remained of Asgard in the wake of Hela's destruction and a battle with Surtur. Their home had been destroyed but Thor began insisting Asgard is a people, not a place. Now, it appears Asgard is extinct.

Based on what Avengers: Infinity War co-director Joe Russo told ComicBook.com around the time of Captain America: Civil War's release, the theory of Thor's followers being massacred gains some steam.

"I'm excited to work with Thor," Joe Russo says. "They're doing some really interesting stuff with Ragnarok and where he's gonna be at the beginning of Infinity War is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he's gonna have a real emotional motivation after that."

The potentially extinct Asgardians can be seen in ComicBook.com's Shot by Shot video at the top of the page, along with a complete breakdown of the Avengers: Infinity War trailer.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2017.
