John Carpenter is a legendary director and also a noted composer of music. Those two talents came together most beautifully when Carpenter composed the iconic theme to his franchise-spawning, hit horror movie Halloween in 1979.

Though semi-retired today, the 68-year-old Carpenter will return to to the Halloween franchise for the first time since the release of Halloween III: Season of the Witch for a new Halloween movie developed by Miramax and Blumhouse productions.

Carpenter will act as a creative consultant on the film, but could he become more hands-on with the film? As in hands on a piano? Producer Jason Blum is trying to make that happen.

"John Carpenter is our executive producer," Blum said during a Facebook live interview with Fandango for the release of his latest low-budget horror movie, Incarnate. "I also am hoping he's going to do the music for the movie."

Hoping? Should fans then get their hopes up?

"The deal isn't done," Blum clarifies, "but I'm a good negotiator."

In recent years, Carpenter has stepped away from filmmaking, making just two films, Ghost of Mars and The War, and directing two episodes of Showtime's Masters of Horror in the last 15 years. Instead, he's focused squarely on music and released two studio albums, Lost Themes and Lost Themes II.

Perhaps being offered a chance to compose the score for the next Halloween movie will give Carpenter another chance to combine both of his passions into a single project. Fans will just have to wait and see and Blum can convince Carpenter.
