When Stranger Things debuted on Netflix and took the pop culture universe by surprise to become one of Netflix’s hottest new shows, the question on most fans’ lips was almost immediately, “Will there be more?”
The first season of Stranger Things seemed like it could have been a self-contained limited series, but fans didn’t have to wait too long before Netflix announced that Stranger Things would be back for a second season.
But how long can Stranger Things keep going? After all, if strange things happen for a long enough period of time they end up becoming normal things. According to the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, they’re planning for Stranger Things to run a total of four of five seasons, but nothing is set in stone.
“Everything changes as we move forward so we’ll see,” Ross Duffer tells Entertainment Weekly.
“I want it to have a really finite ending,” Matt Duffer adds. “I don’t want it to be one of those shows that runs out of gas and they lose it because they’re losing interest. You wanna end when you’re on top.”
As for the actual structure of the seasons going forward, Stranger Things aims to maintain to go the same route as season one, which felt to many viewers like an eight-hour movie.
“Hopefully you’ll come to the end of season 2 and feel fully satisfied and want more but you’ll feel like it has come to a conclusion,” Ross Duffer said. “But also we’ve laid the ground work for further seasons.”
In Stranger Things, when a young boy vanishes, a small town uncovers a mystery involving secret experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one strange little girl.
Stranger Things was created by the Duffer Brothers. Stranger Things is written and directed by Matt and Ross Duffer and executive-produced by Shawn Levy.
Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono and Matthew Modine, with Noah Schnapp and Joe Keery.
Strange Things Season 2 adds Sadie Sink, Dacre Montgomery, Sean Astin, Paul Reisser, Linnea Berthelsen, and Brett Gelman to the cast.
Stranger Things Season 2 consists of nine episode that will premiere on Netflix on Halloween, Oct. 31, 2017.
