Tonight’s episode of Gotham had more fanservice and more hints at what’s to come than almost any other so far in the show.

From Joker nods to Batman and Batgirl nods to a lot of action and even Bruce Wayne going undercover, the episode felt more like a Batman story than anything we’ve seen yet.

So…what did we see? What did we miss? Read on…

THE LAST LAUGH

Joker: The Last Laugh is a DC crossover that centered on the idea that the Clown Prince of Crime was dying.

Seems like a pretty good title for this episode, doesn’t it?

NICE CAPE

The Batman legacy is filled with capes, but

when Barbara’s magician’s outfit draws a “nice cape!” from Theo, it’s hard not to think about the fact that in another version of the mythology, Jim and Barbara have a adaughter who will eventually be Batgirl.

SPLIT PERSONALITY

“Some people say Bruce has a split personality”

JOKER GAS

This is probably just that same poisonous gas they used in the season premiere — but it’s worth mentioning that in many iterations of the character, Joker uses a noxious Joker Gas/Smilex/whatever.

Particularly because every time I think they don’t intend something to be an Easter egg, the producers come out with an interview to say it was.

THE HERO GOTHAM NEEDS

Theo Galvan has decided that the way to take over Gotham is to set himself up as the hero the city needs.

That’s right: This version of Gotham “needs a hero.”

No surprise there. Too bad for him that he’s really only keeping the seat warm.
