Benedict Wong's Doctor Strange Character Is Taking A Different Direction Than The Comics

Even though Benedict Wong began acting in 1993, he has only started to become familiar to mainstream audiences over the past five years or so, landing roles in high-profile films like Johnny English Reborn, Prometheus, Kick-Ass2, The Martian, and, most recently, Marvel's Doctor Strange.

For the latter, the 44-year-old actor will play 'Wong,' a character who has served Dr. Stephen Strange as a servant and a teacher in the comics, though we won't see any aspects of the former in the film.

"I'm certainly not going to be the tea-making manservant. We're heading in a different direction. He's more of a drill sergeant," Wong told Den of Geek. "There isn't any martial arts for Wong in Doctor Strange actually, he's more of a drill sergeant to Kamar-Taj. He's one of the masters of sorcery."

When famous neurosurgeon Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) suffers career-ending injuries in a devastating car crash, he seeks help in the furthest reaches of the world! Hoping to find cures for his injuries, Strange instead uncovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

The cast features Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Rachel McAdams (Sherlock Holmes), Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man), Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) and Tilda Swinton (The Grand Budapest Hotel).

The film is directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister) and written by Derrickson, Jon Spaihts (Prometheus), and C. Robert Cargill (Sinister).

Marvel's Dr. Strange is produced by Kevin Feige with Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Charles Newirth, Stephen Broussard and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.

Marvel's Dr. Strange will cast a spell on audiences November 4, 2016.
