Marvel Television and ABC have released a new look at Ghost Rider in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4, this time revealing Robbie Reyes’ full Spirit of Vengeance transformation.

Defining Reyes’ Ghost Rider as a “Spirit of Vengeance” may not be entirely accurate. Reyes is unique among all of the Ghost Riders in that he isn’t bound to a demon via a deal with the devil and set lose to punish the wicked of the world. Instead, Robbie Reyes is possessed by a satanic serial killer, Eli Morrow, or at least that’s his origin in the comics. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will put its own spin on Ghost Rider.

Ghost Rider “opens up a whole different kind of storytelling for us,” S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeff Bell tells Yahoo! TV. In addition to being the highest profile Marvel character to appear on Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. so far, Ghost Rider’s “origins present themselves as supernatural,” which is new territory for both Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole.

The addition of Ghost Rider also coincides with the new 10 p.m. time slot for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which star Chloe Bennet, who plays Daisy “Quake” Johnson, says allows the series to be “darker and sexier” in Season 4. “If anyone’s familiar with the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider,” she says, they know the show will have to go to some dark places. “These massive themes [are] being threaded throughout our season.”

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 premieres Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
