Things are about to get wibbly-wobbly over at BBC. The British network will be rolling out a new show called Class, a spin-off of the popular Doctor Who series. The drama is set to premiere next month, and the BBC is now confirming a special Time Lord will cameo on the show.

That's right - the Doctor will star in the first episode of Class. Of course, BBC is being mum about how and why the Doctor will appear on the spin-off, but fans definitely aren't going to complain about his inclusion. It's been awhile since fans saw the Twelfth Doctor hit up the TARDIS following the ninth season's finale. And, what's more, the character's cameo will segue nicely into the annual Doctor Who Christmas Special that will air in December.

If you've not heard much about Class, then no worries! The spin-off series is the newest to hit television after Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Class will follow several students who attend Coal Hill Academy, a regular locale seen throughout Doctor Who's lengthy history. The students will experience the thrills and horrors of time travel when their school becomes a hotbed of extraterrestrial activities - and they'll apparently be meeting the Doctor as well.

Patrick Ness, the creator of Class, recently spoke about the much-anticipated series and likened it to another cult classic show. He compared Class to Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer because of the series' younger protagonists and charactered-centered storylines.

"Adults watch that [Buffy], because it's a great show, but the POV and the agency are all teenage, and that's what we want to do with Class," Ness explains. "It needs to be from the point of view of the sixth-formers – but that doesn't mean that it's necessarily a 'young show'," he explained.

"We're not telling stories of the 'chosen ones. It's happenstance that puts these people [at the center of things]. What if your timing is just weird and things happen to you? How do you deal with it? I'm interested in real consequences. The Doctor is always exciting, but he never stays. He goes off on the next adventure. What happens to real people?"

Well, according to Patrick Ness, nothing great happens to those real people who are left in the wake of the Doctor's travels. These sixth-form students are left with a school that's connected to an otherworldly realm full of monsters. Even the BBC's synopsis of Class teases "there's something pressing in on the other side, something waiting for its chance to kill everyone and everything, to bring us all into Shadow."

Earlier this year, BBC announced the main cast for Class to the excitement of fans. Greg Austin (Charlie), Fady Elsayed (Ram), Sophie Hopkins (April), and Vivian Oparah (Tanya) will play students at Coal Hill School. Katherine Kelly (Miss Quill) will play a "powerful" new teacher at the school.

Class will premiere with "For Tonight We Might Die" and "The Coach With The Dragon Tattoo" on October 22 2016.
