BBC Three today revealed the cast of the upcoming Doctor Who spinoff Class.

Assembling for "the first day of term" are stars Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah, each of whom will play a student at Coal Hill School. They're joined by Katherine Kelly, who plays a teacher and "powerful new presence" at the school.

Creator Patrick Ness introduces the cast, and gives fans a look at the half-built set for the show, in the 360 degree video below.

Ness says in the video that they are introducing the cast on photoshoot day, and that principal photography will begin in 5 days.

The Coal Hill School has been a fixture of the Doctor Who since the very first episode of the franchise. Class will explore what it's like to be a student at a school where the Doctor's periodic visits and the infrequent time travel jaunts of faculty like Clara Oswald have caused the walls of space and time around the campus to become thin. As the BBC's description says, "There's something pressing in on the other side, something waiting for its chance to kill everyone and everything, to bring us all into Shadow."

"We searched far and wide for this amazing cast, fantastic actors who understand what we're aiming for with this show," Ness said in the announcement. "And how lucky we are to get Katherine Kelly! She's been stunning in Happy Valley, The Night Manager and Mr Selfridge, just wait until you see her here."

"There's nothing more exciting than meeting stars that nobody's heard of yet," says Steven Moffat, Class and Doctor Who Executive Producer. "We had the read through of the first few episodes last week, and there was a whole row of them. Coal Hill School has been part of Doctor Who since the very first shoot in 1963, but this new show is anything but history. Class is dark and sexy and right now. I've always wondered if there could be a British Buffy - it's taken the brilliant Patrick Ness to figure out how to make it happen."

The announcement said there is further casting still to come. Class is set to debut in 2016, which should be some small comfort to Whovians, who will have to wait until 2017 for Doctor Who Series 10.
