Luke Cage's Mike Colter Doesn't Think The Hero Will Appear In The MCU

For years, fans have been wondering whether Marvel Studios will combine its film and television projects. The realms have often played with one another, but when it comes to bringing small screen actors to big-budget productions, the studio tends to look the other way. With the recent release of Luke Cage on everyone's mind, many have asked whether Power Man might cameo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - but Luke Cage himself doesn't think it will happen.

Mike Colter appeared on Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM for an interview and spoke about his potential inclusion in the MCU. The actor seemed uncertain about the possibility, citing the more adult-oriented content of Marvel's Netflix series.

"What we do is really unique...We're adult kind of oriented. We're not PG-13," Colter explained. "We're not really for the mass audiences, crowd pleasing, family oriented. We have sex scenes. We have, you know, adult situations, and while I think it'd be nice to be in the films, I don't know if we want to dilute what we're doing that makes us very unique."

The actor did say he would be interested in appearing in a film if Marvel Studios could sort something out. "If they can make it work I'm sure it'd be nice, but it's really scheduling. They schedule movies years in advance, we're shooting TV series year round."

"It's very tough to just kind of make things just work the way you want to because it's just so much going on," he finished.

Of course, Colter is spot-on about Marvel Studios and their scheduling woes. The company plans their films years in advance, and they often feature packed casts. Avengers: Infinity War, which will be the next Marvel flick to enter production, already promises to boast a massive cast of all-star actors. Fitting in even a few more may seem impossible to the Russo Brothers who are directing the film.

And, what's more, Colter is going to find himself busy when production on The Defenders heads underway. The crossover series will see Jessica Jones, Matthew Murdock/Daredevil, and Danny Rand/Iron Fist team-up with Luke Cage to take on a mysterious threat. The series could also allude to the developing intergalactic threat that is Thanos without having to hit theaters if Marvel Television plays their scripts right.

Of course, there have been plenty of references to The Avengers in Marvel's Netflix series. In Luke Cage, Cottonmouth commissions a special bullet named Judas that is made from the remains of the Chitauri incident. That same alien invasion is also what damaged Hell's Kitchen in Daredevil, leaving it susceptible to Kingpin's nefarious plans.

These acclaimed MCU television series also tie into one another. In the finale of Luke Cage, fans can see a scene that directly teases Iron Fist's Colleen Wing. And, what's more, Luke Cage was first introduced in Jessica Jones. The series have a greater degree of flexibility, allowing them to riff off one another while referencing the larger film universe.
