Kevin Smith is a well-known comics enthusiast and writer, but one of his most talked about projects never actually made it to the big screen.

Years before Christopher Nolan's Batman series would become the DC model, director Tim Burton was slated to reboot the Superman series, and enlisted Nicholas Cage to star as the lone remaining Kryptonian. The film was in development for some time before getting shelved, and at one point was based on a script from Kevin Smith.

Smith has often talked about his experiences with the project, but in a recent Facebook Live Q&A, he was asked if he would be interested in seeing the project brought to life once again in animated form.

"Oh like based on my script, based on the Superman Lives script? That would be tight dude. I'm not going to lie, that would be fun to see. That's something I worked on 20 years ago at this point, so that would be really amazing to kind of see, like they turn it into a cartoon and get the people to do the voices. Nic Cage is still around and stuff. And I wanted Michael Rooker for my Lex Luthor so that would be amazing. Um, but, you know, I'm game. That ain't up to me kids. THat's up to the good folks at Warner Bros. and stuff, but if they were ever to call and say hey we want to do a cartoon version of that Superman script we wrote, believe me I'd be like (melts), that'd be dope man. You know you close all loops in life, one way or another, and that would be a nice way to close that loop."

DC has often translated its more popular comics work into animated features and even recently based one on the 1960's Batman show. It would certainly be interesting to see the film in some form, especially after all this time. It's unlikely to happen, but hey, you never know right?

The film was featured in a documentary by Jon Schnepp titled The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?. Schnepp goes into amazing detail about the project, why it faltered, and what it could have been, and dispels many of the notions that were assumed after leaked costumes and pictures hit the internet.
