Microsoft brought a lot of games, and a whole new console, to their E3 2017 press conference, but one thing was conspicuously absent – Halo. Oh, sure, we saw a glimpse of Master Chief here and there, but this was the first E3 in recent memory where Microsoft didn’t have any major Halo news to share. So, what exactly is going on with Microsoft’s bread-and-butter series?
Well, shortly after Microsoft’s E3 briefing, 343 Industries head Bonnie Ross hit Twitter to assure fans that the next Halo was in the works, but that it wasn’t ready for prime time just yet:

Okay, fair enough, but when will we learn more? It’s fair to say a good chunk of Xbox One owners bought the system specifically for Halo, so the lack of news is frustrating. Well, the most recent Halo Waypoint blog addresses the lack of Halo at E3, but doesn’t provide much hope for any news in the near future:
“The Xbox E3 2017 media briefing has been talked about as much for what it didn’t show, as what it did. Specifically, a new (or old-made-new) Halo title. For some folks, their despair stemmed from a lack of remastered fight-finishing. I know, I know, we should have told you ahead of time to not expect anything like that. Others were hoping for a tease of things farther off to come. While there’s little to nothing that can be said on that front, it’s been made clear that we won’t be talking about Halo‘s next major title for quite some time. And no, that doesn’t mean Gamescom. Or PAX. Trust us, when we’re ready to begin pulling back that proverbial curtain, you’ll know. It won’t be soon.”
Well, points for honesty, I guess! Halo 5: Guardians split the fanbase somewhat, so it seems like 343 Industries is starting back at square one for Halo 6. Hopefully, the game is worth the wait.
