Paramount has just released the second trailer for 2026’s Street Fighter movie, which will release on October 16. Kitao Sakurai’s reboot is the first real live-action Street Fighter movie in 32 years (we’re ignoring 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, and you should too), and can’t come soon enough. The video game franchise deserves big-screen success, and it looks like we might finally get it.

Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the movie takes place in 1993 and finds Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) being recruited by Chun-Li (Callina Liang) for the upcoming World Warrior Tournament. Like the first Street Fighter teaser, the new footage puts the focus on the movie’s games-accurate character designs, fight scenes, and a delightfully fun tone. Here’s the trailer:
Alongside the trailer, we also got some new character posters, which give another great look at the movie’s impressive cast. Check them out below:

Overall, it’s a strong marketing campaign, and while the release is still several months away, it’s a very promising start for the movie.
The Street Fighter Movie Looks Exactly Like You’d Hope

There’s plenty for fans to get excited about in the Street Fighter movie trailer, but the most important is that this film knows exactly what it is. It’s clear that the filmmakers are taking the game’s seriously, but that the movie is not taking itself too seriously. There’s a lot of stylized action, character designs that feel ripped straight from the games, and plenty of comedy to go with it too. It’s big, it’s goofy, it’s funny, it’s a little bit camp and cheesy, and it looks like it came straight out of the 1990s (all complimentary).
Whether it is a “good” movie by traditional metrics remains to be seen, but what matters is that it looks like it’ll blast, especially for longtime fans of the games. The trailer shows things like Ryu’s Hadoken fireball, makes jokes about Chun-Li’s thighs, and puts Ken and Ryu’s rivalry at the very center of the story. There are also new looks at several other game characters, including Guile (Cody Rhodes), Akuma (Roman Reigns), Cammy (Mel Jarnson), Vega (Orville Peck), and, right at the very end, Blanka (Jason Momoa).
It doesn’t give away too much of the story. There are hints of a deeper, darker conspiracy with M. Bison’s (David Dastmalchian) involvement, and it’s clear that Ken and Ryu having to learn to work together will be a key part of the narrative. Put the focus is very much on the vibes, the characters, and the action, which is no bad thing at this point. Between Mortal Kombat II and Street Fighter, it’s a big year for live-action movies based on classic arcade fighting franchises, and it looks like both will be delivering what fans want.
Street Fighter hits theaters on October 16th, 2026.
