Boruto: Naruto Next Generations may not be that old, but the anime is coming off like a seasoned professional. The sequel dropped shortly after Naruto: Shippuden wrapped back in March, and it is now starting to delve into meaty action with its current ghostly story arc. So, really, it’s about time Kakashi came in and introduced one insane new jutsu.
In the most recent episode of Boruto, fans watched as the anime’s ongoing arc took a major turn. Konoha has been plagued with strange chakra ghost incidents which nearly kill several ninja before Sai taps into its origins; The ninja discovers Danzo’s old ROOT organization is involved with the chakra-draining apparitions, and everything comes to a head when a a massive chakra chimera reveals itself to Konoha in a destructive rampage. Overwhelmed, Sai and his crew calls in for back-up, and Kakashi is the man who first heeds the call.
And, boy – does he heed it.
In the episode, fans can watch as Kakashi dons his traditional Jounin attire despite his former Hokage status. The former Sharingan user is seen helping Sai’s comrades distract the beast Nue until Naruto can arrive, and Kakashi does so with an intense new jutsu. Fans watched as the ninja powered up a powerful purple lightning attack which he developed in a prior Naruto Gaiden novel. The violent move is an immensely powerful one as it can cause thunderstorms if shot off into the sky, and Kakashi is able to use it against Nue with precision.
The attack, which is named Lightning Style: Violet Bolt, is meant to act as a Chidori substitute for Kakashi. The ninja had to forfeit the latter move from his arsenal after losing his Sharingan during the war against Madara Uchiha. The new lightning move allows Kakashi the same kind of accuracy which Sasuke’s Chidori Nagashi has without needing a sword to conduit the move. And, if everyone’s reaction to the move says something, it is that you don’t want to get in Kakashi’s way when he charges this jutsu up.
