Warning! Spoilers for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations episode 13 lie below!
Naruto is one of Masashi Kishimoto’s most powerful creations, but the ninja’s son may give him a run for his money one day. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has shown its hero is different from his dad despite them sharing some serious strength. And, in the anime’s latest episode, fans watched as Boruto debuted a new power that will look pretty familiar.
In the 13th episode of Boruto, fans watched as the ninja finally learned who was behind Konoha’s violent chakra ghosts. Boruto has been searching for the culprit for some time, and Mitsuki revealed their class’ representative was behind the incidents. When the pale ninja went to kill Sumire for her betrayal, Boruto intervened - and then things got weird.
Standing between Mitsuki and Sumire, Boruto looked ahead with his one eye transformed into its yet-identified ocular jutsu. Across the village, the boy could see the giant chakra creature which Sumire summoned, and Boruto’s volatile feelings over everything triggered something within in. Right as Boruto asked his classmates about their intent to kill each other, the boy’s eye starts to spark with electrified chakra.
Across town, Boruto’s eye manages to do something unexpected. It appears to open a transportation portal over the beast Nue that sucks up the bombastic monster. Naruto and Kakashi looked stunned by the rare ninjutsu, and fans quickly learn Boruto was likely behind the incident. The portal which sucked up Nue then appears before Boruto and his friends. Sumire throws herself into the dimension before Boruto chases after her, leaving Mitsuki to following unwillingly.
If fans thought Boruto’s new jutsu looked familiar, then it is because the power has been seen before. Naruto: Shippuden saw a similar time-space jutsu being used by Kakashi and Tobi/Obito. The duo manifested the power thanks to theirMangekyō Sharingan. The elevated ocular jutsu gave them the ability to slip into alternate dimensions, but Boruto’s gift seems to manifest differently. The kid clearly isn’t rocking the Sharingan with his almost Tensaigan-looking eye, and the electricity accompanying the move is also strange. For now, fans will have to continue speculating how Boruto’s powers may intersect with the powerful Uchiha bloodline, but it is safe to say his eye is way more powerful than anyone has imagined thur far.
