One Piece isn't going to celebrate its 20th anniversary halfway. No, the franchise has big plans in store for fans, and one of them is an insane stage play.

This week, Weekly Shonen Jump reported a previously announced One Piece event is set to debut in 2018. The stage play is being described as a holographic and 3DCG event filled with One Piece goodies.

As for its story, the stage event will recount and add on to one of the franchise's most important arcs. The play is stilled One Piece Dramatic Stage THE METAL - Recollection of Marineford. The name confirms the production will recount the Battle of Marineford arc from a few years back, but it will also add new content. Weekly Shonen Jump confirmed the event will have an original story and new characters.

A key visual was also released for the event. You can check it out below:

If this production sounds familiar to you, then you likely heard of its first announcement. Shueisha released information about the project back in 2016, but it has run into delays since. The stage event is an ambitious one thanks to its technology, but One Piece has been testing out elements of the event for some time. In late 2016, a hologram screening of Straw Hats vs Navy vs Seven Warlods of the Sea" aired in Japan.

The upcoming One Piece event will be held in Yokohama where Japan's most famous holographic venue is. The location is where virtual concerts are held for stars like Hatsune Miku and other popular Vocaloid talents.
