Diamond Select has announced the new Marvel Retro Line, launching with Amazing Spider-Man. Inspired by classic action figures of the 1970s, the new line will feature gift sets with toys based on classic creations. The Amazing Spider-Man will be recreated by EMCE Toys to resemble the 1973 figure, which featured Spider-Man in his “circle suit” costume. The head and costume will be removable so that fans can turn Spider-Man into his alter ego, the Daily Bugle reporter, Peter Parker.”Getting the opportunity to make the Marvel toys inspired by my childhood has long been a goal of mine, and kicking the line off with my favorite Marvel hero, Spider-Man, was a no-brainer,” said DST director Chuck Terceira. “Offering extra parts and new outfits allow us to stay true to what made the toys great in the first place, while simultaneously updating the figures and making each one into a true collector’s item.”The Spider-Man figure will come packaged in a reproduction of the original 1970s window box, housed inside a larger collector’s case, with additional outfits and parts in an adjacent tray. The gift set will also come with a miniature booklet explaining the character’s history.Future figures in the Marvel Retro Line will include Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine and more, each with alternate outfits and parts. Each will be limited to a run of 3,000 pieces and will be priced for retail at about $80. Pre-orders are now open for the Marvel Retro Amazing Spider-Man, which will arrive late in 2014.
