Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres on Tuesday, September 24 at 8 PM ET on ABC. However, several members of the press were treated to early screenings of the pilot episode, so there are numerous reviews already online. We’ve rounded up all the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. reviews we could find in one post. While the majority of the reviews are positive, there are a couple reviews that suggest the show is good but not great.According to TV.com, “Don’t let it scare you into thinking it might be too ‘genre’ for you. It’s fun, it’s funny, it’s exciting, and it has action. It’s the whole package.”According to USA Today, “Anyone familiar with Whedon’s TV work will be happy to see some of his best traits on display: the sideways humor that surprises while staying true to plot and character; the efforts to ground the fantasy in real-world emotion; the belief that events in past episodes (and movies) must have repercussions in the present.According to SFGate.com, “It doesn’t feed off post-9/11 cultural unease as so many other dramas do. ‘Homeland,’ ‘Person of Interest,’ ‘Scandal’ and others have the paranoia division well-covered. ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ is the anti-‘Homeland,’ in a way: It’s all about making TV fun again.”According to the Chicago Sun-Times, “Co-created by fanboy favorite Joss Whedon, the show’s pricey-looking pilot caters to both comic book geeks and mainstream viewers with its witty writing and special effects. Whether it’s able to sustain that for a whole season, only someone with Level 7 clearance knows.”According to Newsday, Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a “blast for fans.” They gave the show a grade “A.”According to the NY Post, “Coulson Lives. But the question, based on the quality of the premiere of ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,’ is for just how long. The show, the much-hyped, first TV offshoot of the monstrously successful Marvel cinematic universe that brought us ‘The Avengers’ (et. al), places itself firmly in that world โ yet is a mere shadow of it.”According to Poptimal, “With a strong cast and smart script, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. delivers a smart, action-packed thrill ride.”According to RedEye Chicago, “Cool your jetpacks, people. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is good, but not quite greatโat least not in its first hour. That doesn’t mean it’s not an entertaining ride with incredible potential. (I’m giving it the 3.5 stars based on that potential.)”According to AV Club, “The idea of a superhero procedural is a good one, and there are enough fun and funny moments in the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot to suggest the kind of show that will settle into a groove with time. Yet there are also moments that seem boring, cautious, and predictable.”According to the Hollywood Reporter, “The pilot is one of those good-not-great propositions that many pilots are, particularly those trying to establish a complex world. But it’s an hour that doesn’t exactly justify ABC and Marvel’s feverish protection of it, like it was a secret that could implode the world if it got out.”According to EOnline, “Alas, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is the television event of the year; giving you everything you look for from a TV show: action, laughs, a touch of mystery, great writing and acting, and, most importantly, it’s the most entertaining new offering this season.”According to DIY, “There’s really barely a duff note in the first episode, with thrills aplenty, characters that we can’t wait to get to know and enough rat-a-tat-tat dialogue to warrant multiple viewings.”
