David Spitz, President of Domestic Distribution takes the stage. He is excited to bring out the cast of How To Be A Latin Lover: Salma Hayek and Eugenio Derbez. They argue about how to pronounce his name to some delighted laughs. They introduce a trailer for the new film.
Following the trailer, Spitz introduces All Eyez On Me, the Tupac Shakur biopic. It is the first look at the new trailer. He is seen being told to be an inspiration. Lauren Cohan and Danai Gurira are both featured in the trailer, briefly. Tupac moves out to California, hoping to “educate” and “keep it real” with his music. Tupac meets Sug Knight at Death Row records. Gun shots, fights, concerts, women and more flash across the screen.
The first trailer for American Assassin is introduced. The main character’s parents were killed in a car crash when he was fourteen. He got engaged on a beach but a shooting cost his girlfriend her life. He became an assassin and went out for revenge. He meets Michael Keaton’s character who is a better trained fighter, and dispatches him with ease then goes on to train him.
Next is a trailer for Wonder, an inspirational film about a boy who lived through 27 surgeries starring Owen Wilson and Julia Roberts.
Salma Hayek takes the stage to introduce The Hitman’s Bodyguard, concluding the panel.
While the CinemaCon presentation featured primarily the prestive and awards-bait movies on Lionsgate’s schedule, there were no major announcements about their commercial and genre franchises, like John Wick and Power Rangers, both of which had new installments bow in theaters this year.
