Warner Archive has rolled out a streaming video service, which allows fans to experience rare and hard-to-find movies and television shows from its Warner Archive collection for a monthly subscription rate.At present, not all of the Warner Archive releases are available–for instance, you can use their service to purchase DVDs and Blu-Rays like Superman: Red Son motion comics (as well as other motion comics and DC properties like Legends of the Superheroes and Steel) and The Hudsucker Proxy, which you can’t stream–although the first two seasons of the George Reeves The Adventures of Superman series and movies like Doc Savage are available. The site will face an uphill climb against competition like Netlix and Hulu, though; while Warner Archive Instant is currently offering a free, two-week trial period, the service will cost subscribers $9.99 per month after that. That’s more than either of the above competitors or Amazon’s Prime service (for which you pay annually), and while none of those have these particular films, their libraries are vast and include multiple studios, whereas the Warner Archive is a niche marketplace for people who want movies generally not popular enough to support a large print run.
