At the time of writing, there were plenty of options to choose for this list but we think these are the most essential gadgets ol’ Bruce has up his sleeve. While I’m sure in the pages of Absolute Batman there are going to be even stranger gadgets on these represent Batman the best.
7) The Thrasher Suit

This may be stretching the definition of gadget but a giant mech suit to help Batman in a fight is essentially a gadget when you think about it. The Thrasher suit as seen in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s run is the definition of cool. Used in dire scenarios such as the Court of the Owls attacking th cave, this gadget came in very handy. Adding it along with sub-zero temperatures this was a fierce way to win a fight with semi-undead assassins.
While it hasn’t been seen in quite a while, we do hope to see more of it in the future. I’m sure it would help even out a fight with Bane or Killer Croc depending on how big the two of those guys become. That or a swarm of Vampires or Zombies enter DC, again. This is a prime example of Batman being prepared for anything but not the prime example, that will come in a bit.
6) Smoke Bomb

Going back to an essential gadget Bruce has is the ever classic smoke bombs. These are a classic essential in the utility belt and come in very handy, especially in the Arkham games. Being able to drop one of these an escape in Batman quick fashion makes these one of the best gadgets in his arsenal. Whether it’s for escape, stealth, or theatrics, they’ve done it all. These may not be Batman specific as a lot of characters use these, but there are just as important to him as they are everyone else who uses them. It’s honestly difficult to picture Batman without these in his arsenal and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
5) Kryptonite Ring

The biggest example of Batman and his contingency plans is the Kryptonite ring or just a piece of Kryptonite on him at all times. Perfect for taking on Superman if he is brainwashed or temporarily rogue. The only major drawback is, it’s not enough to take the guy out, it’ll startle him but this is more for Batman making sure he’s not on a rampage killing people.
While not enough to take on Injustice Superman, this does have its moments. Using this in the scenario of Batman: Hush, is the perfect way to implement the ring. While it does seem more up Lex’s alley, he can never be too sure on when to lose the ring but it will probably stay in the belt for a long time next to the lollipops.
4) Shark Repellent Bat Spray

THE prime example of Batman being prepared for anything is the Shark Repellent. Once a funny gimmick in the Batman movie of 1966, is now canon thanks to Batman #135 from 2023. Being used to fight off a cosmic space shark, the gadget came in very handy in this extremely rare circumstance. I don’t think any of us expected to see this actually make the jump to the comics but I couldn’t be happier it made it here. I highly doubt we’ll see it again but I have a feeling I’ll be eating my words with that statement. Issue #1000 is on the horizon and King Shark is always lurking around it seems.
3) Bat-tle Axe

The most recent addition to the gadget list has to be the removeable emblem battle axe carried by Absolute Batman. It’s the most absurd thing possible and some of us thought the size of the logo was silly. Now look at it, a weapon to take on criminals that somehow doesn’t kill them. I’m thinking of that one goon in issue #1 in particular but I guess that’s a plus for Bruce.
While this is one of the only gadgets we’ve seen from Absolute Batman, I’m sure more are on the way and they’re only going to be crazier. It was either this or the pellet that turned water into hydrochloric acid but this one is the crazier one by a mile. Which funny enough is the size of the axe
2) The Grappling Gun

Batman’s grappling gun is easily one of the most iconic gadgets Bruce has. Able to grapple to the top of a building or ledge, it helps bring him up to what he needs. In the past it was just a hook but adding it in a pressurized gun was what shoots it up to the top. While mainly used as a gadget for maneuvering, it has been used to help Bruce fall back to earth’s atmosphere graciously. I wish I was joking but yes that happened, oh how I miss Chip Zdarsky’s writing.
1) The Batarang

Was there any other choice besides the batarang? A bladed boomerang in the shape of a bat that he can throw to disarm criminals is easily the best thing he has. It’s made the jump to countless films, cartoons, video games, statues, toys, and even collectible recreations from said films. It’s taken many different forms over the years and some even being shot from a gun but it’s easily his most recognizable gadget and that’s saying a lot given the shark spray.
What’s your favorite Batman Gadget? Let us know what you’re thinking in the comments. I’m already expecting to see the Shark Repellent but it’s deserved.
