While names like Iron Man, Justice League, Wonder Woman, and Ant-man might rank higher in the mass conciseness nowadays, it would be a travesty for fans to forget about a hero that proceeded their film exploits by a wide margin.

That hero is Swamp Thing, who starred in two film adaptations in the 1980’s. The sequel, fittingly titled The Return of Swamp Thing, was released in 1989 and was directed by Jim Wynorski. The film has gone on to become a cult classic, and Wynorski made fans of the film very happy today when he revealed a familiar cover on his Facebook page, with the caption “Finally coming to BluRay very shortly.”
No word on release dates or what extras will be included, but the original Swamp Thing already made the transition to Blu-ray, and featured Audio commentary from Writer and Director Wes Craven, commentary from William Munns (Makeup Effects Artist), and interviews with Adrienne Barbeau, Reggie Batts, and Swamp Thing creator Len Wein. Expect similar features for Return of Swamp Thing.
The Return of Swamp Thing starred Dick Durock, who reprised his role as Swamp Thing from the original film. Alongside Durock was Heather Locklear (Abby Arcane), Louis Jordon (Anton Arcane), and Monique Gabrielle as Miss Poinsettia. Wynorski was only given 30 days to shoot the project but still managed to deliver the final film in just 27 days.
While the effects and dialogue don’t hold up all that well, there is still a lot of fun to be had, and soon you’ll get to experience it on your HD televisions.
