Spoilers ahead for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice - The Ultimate Cut, available digitally later this month and on Blu-ray and DVD in July.

Having pre-ordered Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice on CinemaNow at a Best Buy retail store earlier this year (you can see a video of me breaking down the cool packaging and "extras" below), I was one of a number of people lucky enough to catch an early look at the extended "Ultimate Cut" of the film when CinemaNow briefly made it available yesterday.

There was a lot to unpack in the new cut of the film, which runs about half an hour longer and includes a number of deleted or extended scenes, including the revelation of just what role Jena Malone was goign to play before she was cut from the theatrical cut of the movie.

But probably the thing that's going to have most people talking is the revelation that Lex Luthor and Batman have a...complicated...relationship in those last few minutes.

In the theatrical cut of the movie, of course, Batman came to Luthor's prison cell to menace him with a bat-branding iron, and Luthor seized the opportunity to tease Justice League, saying that something out in space had taken note of Superman's death, and that it was coming for Earth.

The longer version of that scene, though, reveals that Lex knows who Batman really is -- something that fans have debated since the movie came out in theaters -- but when he tries to use that against Batman, it backfires kind of spectacularly.

"But who would believe me?" Luthor muses. "I'm insane. Not even fit to stand trial."

"We have hospitals that treat the mentally ill with compassion," Batman assures the villain, then turns it around, saying, "But that's not where you're going. I've arranged to have you transferred to Arkham Asylum in Gotham. I still have some friends there. And they're expecting you."

While this could easily just be a garden-variety threat -- Batman is sending Luthor to a notoriously-unsafe asylum filled with supervillains, and staffed by guards who owe Batman favors -- it's easy to speculate that it could be an opening to give Lex a cameo appearance in the forthcoming Suicide Squad movie.

Fans have wondered about that idea for a while now, making it one of a number of Batman V Superman fan theories that have popped up in multiple places online, seemingly without each one being aware of the other.

And now, with Luthor in Arkham at the same time as Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and the rest, it seems like it's a very real possibility. While we've seen plenty of footage of the gang in custody at Belle Reve, we also know that they're transported from one location to another at some point in the film -- and Harley's whole backstory revolves around her being at Arkham.
