The cover for Detective Comics is particularly interesting, as the image is an homage to George Perez’s cover to Batman #441, the middle chapter to “A Lonely Place of Dying,” the story arc in which Drake was introduced as the third Robin.
The upcoming Detective story is titled “A Lonely Place of Living,” and sees Drake trying to decide between escaping Mr. Oz’s prison or staying behind — a decision made harder by a surprising revelation that fans will have to wait to fully grasp the gravity of.
The Action Comics cover, the first part of “The Oz Effect,” which promises to finally reveal Mr. Oz’s identity and true nature, appears to be dozens of alien beings twisted in agony into the shape of Superman‘s sigil and hanging over a logo that looks like (but is not) the one from the HBO series Oz, with the cover itself seemingly simulating the cover of a DVD box set a bit.
The Action Comics issues will feature lenticular covers, serving as a kind of companion to “The Button,” the Batman and The Flash crossover that also dealt with the Watchmen-related dangling plot threads of DC Universe: Rebirth and featured lenticular covers on each issue.
You can check out the solicitation text below, and the covers for Action #987 and Detective #965 in the attached image gallery.
