Gotham is heading to Thursday nights this fall, and Fox has released a new trailer commemorating the move.

The trailer pushes young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) closer to his destiny as Batman. After experiencing a moment of crime-fighting bliss in last season’s finale, Gotham‘s fourth season will see Bruce putting on a black costume and mask to protect Gotham City on a regular basis.
The trailer shows Alfred (Sean Pertwee) doing his best to dissuade Bruce from this course of action, but Bruce Wayne says he’s never “felt so alive” as he does in the mask.
That moment at the end of Gotham‘s third season wasn’t just a highlight for Bruce, but for Mazouz as well.
“That was one of the best moments of my life. It was amazing,” Mazouz told ComicBook.com in a previous interview. “When John Stephens, our executive producer, told me about that moment we were shooting, I think, episode 10 of Season 3 and I was like, oh my god. I was just in shock and I couldn’t really process it. What I was thinking the next week or so was, ‘please don’t change it, please don’t change it, please don’t change it.’ And they didn’t — they made it even better than what he told me was going to happen. I was just so excited.”
Mazouz also hinted that Gotham seemed to inevitably be hurtling towards his transition from Bruce Wayne to Batman.
“Another thing I was worried about was we were going to get to Season 4 and the writers were going to go, ‘You know, I think we took it a little too far too fast. Let’s backtrack,’” Mazouz explained. “And the exact opposite happened. The trajectory is just continuing in that direction. I would say, I would know it’s accelerating in that direction. It’s not going to stop.”
The Scarecrow Returns
The trailer also offers a terrifying glimpse at the Scarecrow (Charlie Tahan).
Jonathan Crane first appeared on Gotham in the show’s first season. The episodes “The Fearsome Dr. Crane” and “The Scarecrow” focused on Jonathan’s father, Gerald, and his attempts to create a serum that would remove fear from anyone who took it.
Gerald succeeded and dosed himself with the serum and then dosed Jonathan. No longer having fear, Gerald Crane opened fire on the GCPD and was shot dead.
Jonathan overdosed on the serum, which then began having adverse effects on him. He looked up at a scarecrow and began screaming. He was taken to a hospital where doctors discovered that he was being forced to constantly see his worst fear, a sentient scarecrow attacking him.
It seems that Jonathan Crane has made some kind of recovery and is now set to bring his own fear to Gotham City.
