After seeing Harley Quinn make her big screen and live-action debut in Suicide Squad, actress Harley Quinn Smith, named after the character by her famously geeky dad Kevin Smith, was thrilled with what Margot Robbie brought to the screen. In an interview with Comicbook.com, Smith said there was “not a more perfect person to play Harley Quinn,” but added with a laugh, “except if I have the honor one day…”

Now, she sees opportunity in the spin-off of the Oscar-nominated Squad, and told us that if that movie looks back at the past of Harleen Quinzel from before she met the Joker and made her transformation, she’d love to be a part of it.

“Before they even mentioned that she was going to make a spinoff, I talked to my agent and I was like honestly, I know this isn’t even a project yet, but I just want you to know that when the day comes that they do start putting this into production I need you to make sure, if there is a young Harley Quinn role, that no one other than Harley Quinn plays that role,” Smith said. Her agent “was like, ‘Okay…’” she said with another chuckle. “I don’t even know how long I’ve been waiting for this.”

The actress made her comic book adaptation debut on Supergirl this week, but as a mere civilian. Her next goal is a recurring role on one of the CW’s DC shows, specifically in a spot that will showcase her darkside.

“Honestly, any villain would be fun. I like to play characters that are most opposite from me, I think it’s more fun that way and any villain in a movie or on The Flash. Joey King just played Magenta I think, on the Flash,” she said. “Something like that. There’s not too many teenage female villains, but any sort of villainous role would be so awesome.”

Harley Quinn Smith graduates high school later this spring, and noted, “Just alert the CW, I am available. Sound the alarm. Six months is going to go by in a flash, so I am ready for the CW.” With puns like that, she’s already got the comic book villain thing down.

You can watch Smith’s guest appearance on last night’s Supergirl episode, directed by her father, “Supergirl Lives,” now on the CW app and website and on demand. You can find her online on instagram.
