It seems James Tynion IV's run on Detective Comics is coming to an end.
DC's new solicitations reveal that his run on the series will come to its conclusion with Detective Comics #981. That will also bring an end to his Batmen Eternal arc, though it isn't known who will be coming onto the book in his place.
Tynion's time on Detective kick-started with Detective Comics #934, right at the start of the Rebirth era. He would bring together a team of beloved Gotham vigilantes that included Robin, Spoiler, Cassandra Cain, Batwoman, and Clayface that might've seemed an odd mix at the outset but turned into one of DC's most interesting teams. Since then he's taken characters like Spoiler and Cassandra in innovative directions, introduced the Victim Syndicate, and even managed to bring Batwing and Azrael on board.
All that doesn't even include his "killing" Robin and bringing back the Tim Drake of the future to cause chaos in the present. Not a bad resume, and while we are sad to see him go, he will be working on one of the upcoming Justice League spinoff books, so maybe we'll see a few familiar faces show up there.
The good news is that there's still a few issues of his run left to enjoy, starting with last week's Detective Comics #974. Detective Comics #975 will build on the aftermath of that rather heavy issue with the Trial of Batwoman, followed by the start of his last epic Batmen Eternal, which kicks off in Detective Comics #976.
