While Guggenheim revealed in his post that the title will make much more sense once the episode airs, showrunner Phil Klemmer spoke with ComicBook.com at San Diego Comic Con back in July and revealed that while the episode is about a famous Helen, it’s not the actress that you’re thinking of.
“We do have a Helen of Troy episode we’ve been talking about in the room. It’s an interesting idea. It’s this woman who started a terrible Trojan war and there were thousands of lives lost — we’ll see her in Hollywood, creating a similar sort of war between a pair of studio bosses, but we’re going to explore the notion of was she at fault? Was she a person or just this object? So, we get into notions of beauty and sexual politics and all sorts of crazy stuff that you would think would not belong on a superhero time-travel show, but somehow it works,” Klemmer said.
The idea of Helen of Troy in Hollywood would fit right in with everything we know about the upcoming third season of The CW superhero show. We already know that during the first few episodes of the season the Legends will visit the carnival world of PT Barnum, cross paths with Julius Caesar as well as reference E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. While it sounds like “Helen Hunt” will have history’s Helen of Troy causing trouble in Tinseltown instead of the Legends going back to ancient Greece, we do have to wonder if there’s room for the real Helen Hunt to make an appearance in the episode or at least a Mad About You reference.
Legends of Tomorrow returns to Tuesday nights at 9 p.m., following new episodes of The Flash, in October.
