The episode opens in a weather research facility in Norway, where scientists have discovered a wolf’s corpse in the permafrost. Even though the wolf was “frozen” for thousands of years, the wolf’s body is strangely still warm. One of the scientists cuts it open and sticks his hand inside, but something….grabs him and pulls his hand deeper.

Over in National City, Mon-El and Kara have a drink together at the alien bar, while J’onn and M’gann bond. Mon-El still doesn’t have control over his powers, so he agrees to train with Kara….as long as she drinks the potent alien alcohol in front of her. While Kara gets wasted, Alex talks to Maggie about coming out to Alex’s family. Unfortunately, J’onn and Alex get called into work to investigate a distress call from the Norweigan research facility.

When J’onn and Alex arrive, they find the researchers’ bodies sucked dry like withered corpses. However, one scientist (the one who stuck his hand in the wolf corpse) is still alive, so they fly him back to the DEO.

The next day, Alex insists that the scientist (whose name is Jones) remain at DEO headquarters for observation, but Jones says he needs to continue his research. As Jones leaves the DEO, a slug-like alien emerges from his mouth and crawls into his ear.

The next morning, Supergirl and Mon-El train together, with Supergirl easily in control of their “sparring”. Alex interrupts and asks to talk to Kara “alone”. On the subsequent walk, Alex comes out to Kara, but Kara doesn’t quite understand why Alex is feeling this way now. Alex says that she has felt that way before, but that she’s tried to repress those feelings because she was afraid. When Kara asks about Maggie, Alex suddenly gets upset and leaves.

Jones continues to observe the creature’s growth and notes that it seems to be consuming his red blood cells. Jones’s boss (who seems to be a climate change skeptic) walks in and tries to fire him, but Jones says that “we” (meaning him and the parasite) don’t find that acceptable.

Back at the DEO, Winn pulls up a video from the research center, which shows Jones attacking the other scientists and draining their energy. Alex and Supergirl head to National City University to bring in Jones, but he drains Supergirl of her power and then shrugs off several bullets from Alex before leaving the building.

Alex runs some tests on Supergirl, but J’onn sends her home to rest. Jimmy shows up, worried about Kara, and then tells Winn to give him his new superhero suit. But Winn snaps at Jimmy and says that the suit is just a glorified Halloween costume because it’s not ready yet. If Jimmy goes into the field, he’ll die and then he can’t help Kara or anyone else.

Alex shows up at Kara’s apartment and says that Kara has been acting weird ever since Alex came out to her. Kara says that she’s okay with Alex being gay, but that she’s sorry because Alex never felt comfortable sharing those feelings with Kara before. Kara says they’ve spent so much time worrying about her secret, she never stopped to think that Alex had something to share with her too. Alex and Kara hug it out, but the DEO sends an alert that an alien is beating someone up in an alley.

When Supergirl arrives, she finds out that Mon-El is working an an enforcer for a bookie. Supergirl calls Mon-El a bad person, but Mon-El counters by saying that Supergirl is only a hero because she likes the adulation. Supergirl ends up giving up on Mon-El and flying back to the DEO.

The DEO sends Supergirl to stop Jones from killing a climate change lobbyist. Supergirl and J’onn try to stop him, but Jones ends up draining both of them. With all of the extra energy, Jones transforms into a giant purple monster and runs off, leaving J’onn and Supergirl withered on the ground.

Alex gets J’onn and Kara back to the DEO, although both are in pretty bad shape. J’onn needs a blood infusion to survive, so Alex leaves to get M’gann. Meanwhile, Jimmy tells Winn that they need to get him into the field, so Winn finally gives him his new superhero suit.

Alex goes to the bar to grab M’gann and finds Mon-El drinking shots and moping. Alex says that Kara believes in Mon-El, but Alex thinks he’s just a coward.

Alex takes M’gann back to the DEO and explains that J’onn needs M’gann’s blood to survive. M’gann tries to protest and says that J’onn wouldn’t want this, but Alex says they don’t have another choice. As they begin the procedure, M’gann asks J’onn to forgive her.

The Parasite attacks the keynote speaker of a climate conference, but Mon-El stops him from killing him. When the Parasite grabs Mon-El, Jimmy (now going by the superhero name Guardian) arrives to save the day.

With Winn providing backup from a secret delivery van, Guardian fights the Parasite while Mon-El rescues civilians from the collateral fire. Meanwhile, Supergirl wakes up, flies to a nuclear power plant to grab some plutonium and then uses it to overload Parasite’s system, causing him to explode. In the aftermath, Supergirl thanks Mon-El for showing up and then thanks Guardian…who has a lead-lined suit to protect his identity.

The next morning, Winn visits Jimmy at CatCo and agrees to keep helping Jimmy be the Guardian. They dub themselves “the Superfriends”, which is pretty hilarious.

J’onn wakes up with M’gann at his side and thanks her for the blood infusion. Although he seems grateful, M’gann notices that J’onn’s hand is shaking, which worries her.

Alex shows up at the alien bar and tells Maggie to buy her a drink. Maggie asks what she’s having and Alex grabs Maggie and kisses her. However, Maggie lets Alex down gently by pointing out that Alex is still “fresh off the boat” and that she still sees everything as shiny and new. Maggie says that those relationships never end well, and that she wants to be there for Alex as a friend. Alex gets upset and leaves the bar.

Later that night, Kara shows up at Alex’s apartment (Alex missed work), but Alex doesn’t want to let her in. When Kara flies in through the window, Alex breaks down and tells her about Maggie.

The episode ends with Mon-El stopping to help a homeless man, only for the man to taser him. A black van pulls up and Cadmus agents throw Mon-El inside.
