Over the course of two seasons on The CW, the Girl of Steel has faced many destructive villains bent on dominating National City or enslaving the human race.

But when Supergirl returns this fall for Season 3, she’ll be facing a new kind of enemy with a different ideology in the form of Odette Annable’s Reign. The character doesn’t have a long history in the comics, but that means the Supergirl writers will have more leeway to adapt Reign to fit the narrative of the show.

โ€จAnnable spoke with ComicBook.com at San Diego Comic-Con about playing Reign and why this villain will be different the the other threats Kara Danvers has faced previously on the show. Check out the video above!

“We just started filming, I don’t want to get fired yet so I can’t give away any spoilers,” Annable began. “But I think what’s awesome about Reign is that she’s unlike any villain that we’ve seen on Supergirl in Seasons 1 and 2. She’s coming in with her own agenda. It’s a completely different thing that she’s coming into. And I don’t think people will expect to see what she’s doing, which is very exciting.”

“Isn’t her name ‘Worldkiller’?” Supergirl star Melissa Benoist asked.

“Yes, she’s going to be a match for Supergirl,” Annable said.

โ€จShowrunner Jessica Queller added that she’s a “bio-engineered weapon.”

It sounds like the threat of Reign will be a step up from Maxwell Lord’s machinations and Queen Rhea’s invasion efforts. We’ll find out more when Supergirl premieres Monday, October 9th, at 8/7c, on The CW.

“Ridding National City of Queen Rhea and her Daxamite army was a major win for Supergirl, but one that came at a significant cost, as Kara was forced to sacrifice her budding relationship with Mon-El. When season three returns with all-new supercharged adventures this fall on The CW, Kara and team will come up against a new threat in the form of DC Worldkiller, Reign.”

Based on the DC Comics character, Supergirl AKA Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero who she was always meant to be on The CW series, Supergirl.

Distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. International Television Distribution, SUPERGIRL is executive produced by Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “The Flash”), Ali Adler (“The New Normal”), Andrew Kreisberg (“The Flash,” “Arrow”) and Sarah Schechter (“Blindspot,” “The Mysteries of Laura”). Supergirl is based on the characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and appearing in DC Comics, by special arrangement with the Jerry Siegel Family.
