How The Flash Season 4 Begins
Flash star Grant Gustin explained that season 4 picks up "Six months later. Barry's in the Speed Force. And that's pretty much all I've got, because Barry's in the Speed Force."
Gustin's co-star Candice Patton (aka Iris West) added, "He [Barry] is very mad about it," before elaborating that, "We pick up six months later. S.T.A.R. Labs is trying to keep it together without Barry, so Kid Flash is kind of taking up a lot of the slack for Barry; Iris is kind of the team leader at S.T.A.R. Labs this season - or at least starting in the season without Barry - and Joe, and Cisco... We're all trying to keep Central City safe without The Flash. It's hard - it's hard not having him around."
Dr. Wells/"Harry"/"H.R." actor Tom Cavanagh jokingly replied "But it's also a lot quieter..." to which Patton responded with a stern (but joking) "Shame!"
It sounds like Team Flash will evolve as our familiar players take on new roles - while Barry will have to presumably take some introspective and abstract journey through The Speed Force, before arriving back on Earth. It could be the formula for a truly exciting season - or a story arc that needs swift conclusion before we get to something more exciting.
