Ubisoft has dropped a new Assassin's Creed Origins trailer, and this cinematic, sandy experience is one of the best previews of the game that we've seen so far.

It's easy to say that it's just a cinematic trailer with no gameplay involved and it therefore shouldn't be weighted as heavily, but it's hard to discount how fantastic the trailer is. Like the absence of gameplay, if you're looking for a bit of story or plot elements mixed into your trailer, you might be a bit let down by the nearly two minutes of CGI as well. But even without those components, the trailer is still more than worth the watch.

Through glimpses of Egypt, Egypt, sand, and more Egypt, viewers receive a tour of what they can expect from the historic setting. History buffs and fans of Egyptian mythology and beliefs will have a field day with the trailer by picking out certain noticeable parts that tie into the game's underlying themes. An early part of the trailer focuses on a cat that's traversing the landscape, unbothered by the surrounding humans, a scene that highlights the lofty position of respect that cats held back in ancient Egypt. A heart also blows away as sand in the wind after it was removed from a body, a part of the mummification process.

The "Where it all ends, it begins" line at the end of the trailer had some viewers a bit concerned that it indicated this would be the final Assassin's Creed game, but Origins' game director Ashraf Ismail clarified that it meant the end of Ancient Egypt and the beginning of the Brotherhood.

Of course, if you're not well-versed in your Egyptian history, you'll still have plenty of ways to learn more about everything that you've seen in the trailer and much more. It won't be shipping with the base game, but in 2018, a Discovery Tour mode is scheduled to be added to the game. This mode will allow players to navigate ancient Egypt through a series of guided tours that'll teach you everything that you need to know in order to survive and thrive in the setting.
