Earlier this week we reported that a renowned analyst firm predicted that Call of Duty Black Ops 4 would be the next title in the longstanding franchise come 2018. The Black Ops segment of the Call of Duty series has always had a special place in the FPS niche, particularly with its strong campaign and zombie playlists. With the talk immediately swarming the idea of a new Black Ops, it seems that a popular voice actor from the franchise may have accidentally confirmed this rumor to be true.

The first set of tweets were exciting, but nothing that indicated any real direction – it was his reply, however, that turned heads. James Burns, known for his work as Sgt. Frank Woods in Black Ops, kicked up the sandstorm with his first message stating, “Relax Black Ops fans … I will tell you what I know very soon … @Sgt_Frank_Woods.”

When one follower indicated the report circulating the esteemed prediction, his short reply seemed to say a lot more than his short character usage:

Though not an official announcement, it seems like Burns just can’t wait to keep the news in. Though everything short of an official publisher announcement should be taken with a grain of salt, it does fall in line with several reports indicating that the Black Ops franchise will be continued for the next cycle installment set for 2018.ย

Earlier this week we dove into those reportsย with the likelihood of this prediction coming to pass. Given that it is Treyarch’s turn to bat, the developers behind the infamous Black Ops series, it does seem very likely that this would be the route they would want to take, though counting out a new World At War wouldn’t be too far out of the question either with the series going back to their historical roots.ย

What’s left though in addition to “is Black Ops the next step” is will they continue on with the futuristic narrative, or fall underneath the umbrella of a more historical timeline? Though Black Ops 3 was set in a highly technically advanced time frame, it did have frequent flashbacks to the past through their AI system, which gave fans of the more dated storylines a taste of what they love while still fitting in for Treyarch’sย more futuristic vision.ย

Until then, FPS fans have Call of Duty WW2 to look forward to. The team over at Sledgehammer has been working hard alongside famed historians to make the new title something to be hailed by fans and it’s bringing back a lot of that old CoDย excitement. So much so, it’s been shown as to be the “most anticipated title” of 2018.

Call of Duty: WWIIย will release on November 3rdย forย Xbox One, PlayStation 4 andย PC.
