The drama surrounding Square Enix’s selling of developer IO Interactive has been making the rounds over the past few weeks, along with the future of the Hitman franchise that it’s still working on. But today, the team provided new details as to what the future could possibly hold for the franchise.

The big note is how the game is going to be structured moving forward in terms of sales. IO Interactive noted that, in “approximately” two weeks, there will be less components available for separate purchase. Both the Intro Pack and the Upgrade Pack for the game will be removed entirely from digital stores, leaving only the complete game to be purchased.

IO Interactive noted that this process will make it “easier and simpler” to buy the game if you haven’t already, so that players can get it in one flail swoop instead of buying the game in parts. That could be good news for those that have been waiting for a “complete” package, as it’s currently being sold in stores both digitally and physically.

As far as how this will affect each certain platform, the developer broke it down like this:

  • Steam: After the changes, Intro Pack owners will be able to purchase ‘The Complete First Season’ and only pay for the episodes that they do not already own. Essentially, Steam will detect which episodes you have already purchased and only charge you for the ones you do not own. Individual episodes will no longer be available for purchase.
  • Xbox One: After the changes, Intro Pack owners will be able to purchase ‘The Complete First Season’ at a reduced price. Essentially, the price of the ‘Intro Pack’ will be taken off the price of ‘The Complete First Season’ and you will pay the difference. Individual episodes will remain available for purchase.
  • PS4: After the changes, Intro Pack owners will be able to purchase ‘The Complete First Season’ at the standard price. Individual episodes will remain available for purchase.

But perhaps the most interesting thing to note is what IO Interactive said its conclusion, noting that this will “lay the foundations” for “future plans for Hitman.” This indicates that development on the series could continue, even with everything going on regarding the studio’s sale.

We’ll see what happens in the months ahead.

Hitman: The Complete First Season is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
