Last month, we reported on the news that the special edition of this year's dunkfest from 2K Sports, NBA 2K18, would feature the legendary Shaquille O'Neal in all his rim-dunking glory. But he's not the only cover star that will be gracing this year's basketball affair.
The publisher confirmed earlier today that Kyrie Irving, who will no doubt be busy during tonight's start of the NBA Playoffs alongside his Cleveland Cavaliers, will be appearing on the standard edition cover for NBA 2K18.
"It is well known that I'm an avid player of the series and I am honored to be the cover athlete for NBA 2K18," Irving noted in a press statement. "It's surreal to be featured on the cover and I can't wait to dominate on the virtual court with all of my fans this fall."
In addition, Alfie Brody, vice president of marketing for NBA 2K, added this about Irving appearing on the cover: "It's obvious that Kyrie isn't disappearing from the spotlight anytime soon, so we're thrilled to have him as our cover athlete, alongside Shaq for the NBA 2K18 Legend Edition. He's a more-than-worthy recipient of this honor, and joins so many other greats who were cover athletes before him."
You can check out his debut cover art below, and it's a bit different from previous NBA 2K games. While the font for the game is still the same, it's grey instead of black this time, perhaps to provide more focus of Irving's uniform on the cover.
Those that pre-order the standard edition of the game will also get a handful of other goodies, including a special bonus of 5,000 Virtual Currency to apply towards their players, ten Weekly MyTeam Packs, and a Kyrie Outfit pack with other items yet to be announced.
What's more, fans will be able to experience the game on more systems than ever, since 2K Sports confirmed that the Nintendo Switch would be getting it, alongside the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC versions.
The game will be available on September 19th, but those that pre-order it will be able to access it four days earlier, starting September 15th.0comments
