San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing, with fans being treated to major entertainment news from The Walking Dead and Fox Studios, as well as plenty of gaming-related goodies, including new trailers for Call of Duty: WWII Zombies and Injustice 2. Well, the latest big SDCC 2017 reveal should be of interest to both movie and gaming fanatics, as Ready Player One has finally stepped out from behind the curtain.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ Comic-Con panel is happening as we speak โ€“ Justice League and Blade Runner 2049 are arguably the headliners of Warner Bros’ show, but the Steven Spielberg-directed Ready Player One has also been a major focus, with the sci-fi adventure receiving its first full trailer. The Ready Player One debut trailer gave us a first look at the movie’s virtual world, and, surprisingly, packed in a ton of references to other Warner Bros-owned properties. Here’s a rundown of the trailer from ComicBook’s own Joseph Schmidt:

The clip starts with a voice over, “I was born in 2025, but I wish I was born in 1980s, like all my heroes.” It shows him explore his town, which is stacked with trailers and makeshift abodes. He puts on some VR goggles and enters the virtual world, where he battles alongside the Iron Giant, fighting creatures like Freddy Krueger.

“Tom Sawyer” by RUSH plays, showing quick battle and driving sequences. A futuristic police force floods the streets. Then it shows a group of people entering VR stations, lowering goggles onto their heads, and entering the virtual world. The footage ends with a closeup of the key entering a slot before cutting to black.

Ready Player One takes place in a future where people spend most of their time in an ’80s-inspired virtual world named OASIS. Of course, no virtual world is complete without some sort of goal, and OASIS contains a series of puzzles that will grant untold power and riches to whoever solves them. A teenager named Wade Watts solves the first puzzle, but quickly discovers that people are willing to do very bad things to crack the puzzles before him. Welcome to the world of online gaming, Wade!

Based on the hit book of the same name by Ernest Cline, Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse) as Wade Watts/his in-game avatar Parzival, as well as Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Simon Pegg (Star Trek, Mission: Impossible), T.J. Miller (Silicon Valley), Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). The movie’s script was written by Cline, Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk, The Avengers), and Eric Eason (A Better Life).

Ready Player One was originally slated to be released this December, but was bumped back to avoid competition with Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Ready Player One is now scheduled to hit theaters March 30, 2018.
